ASX adds 0.3% as banks, Wesfarmers, Afterpay surge

  • The ASX  finished 0.3% higher at 6660.2 thanks to gains for banks, Afterpay, Wesfarmers, and Woolworths. The index faded late to finish off session highs  
  • Iron ore prices climbed to nine-year highs, adding another 2.3% to $US160.13 a tonne. However, the big miners were subdued on Monday, with BHP down 0.2%, Rio dropping 1.8% and Fortescue Metals 3.4% lower 
  • CSL’s chief scientific officer says the firm is confident the Oxford vaccine will get local approval – but even if it hits hurdles, Australia has other options 
  • US futures are pointing to gains on Wall Street tonight. The S&P E-mini is up 0.5%, the Dow E-mini is 0.6% higher, and the NASDAQ is 0.4% in front
